2006

is banging on the door which is hard to deal with because I have just called a taxi for 2005. That was tricky too because the amount of baggage he had was incredible! Boxes of memories, crates of bitter pills and huge suitcases full of photographs, diaries full of birthdays, deathdays, sick days and holidays. It was a wonder he could leave at all. Strange because I know that when he has finally left, I will still think he is around. The first two weeks of the New Year are highlighted by writing the wrong date in every form I have to fill in. Now that cheque books aren't used so much it isn't quite so bad.. Oh the initialling I had to do to change the year every time... (I do hope someone else knows what I am talking about.!)

One of the most exciting things about expecting a new guest, of course, is the hope that one won't make the same mistakes. I wanted to do so many things while 2005 was here and I only got a few of them done. I did give up smoking which was the major one, but my efforts with entertaining and extending the hand of hospitality to friends didn't work. Maybe they will with 2006. We shall have to see....

The table is laid, the bed made up with fresh towels and breakfast is in the fridge for tomorrow. Now I just need to wait for the doorbell to go and lock the back door after 2005... Ahhh...is that him now?

I know what you mean about the cheques and initialling thing - used to work in a bank as well so I saw it for 8 hours a day!

It is great that you quit smoking, Minerva. Don't beat yourself up because you didn't entertain or extend yourself. You have gone through so much this past year; it is understandable that you didn't.

Have a Happy New Year and I hope that 2006 will be your best year ever!

2005 was not one of my favourites and 2004 wasn't so hot either. I appreciate your determination to squeeze out as much goodness in each day as possible. You have helped me see the importance of each moment and I thank you for that.
It is my wish that 2006 offers you much love and kindness with truckloads of smiles.
